OUR STORY
AÂ Business Dedicated to My Daughters
​​​
Taylor & Rae Studio is my heartfelt tribute to my beautiful daughters, Avani Rae & Amaya Taylor. After leaving my teaching career to become a stay-at-home mom, I am committed to setting an example of hard work, passion, kindness and the importance of building a strong community around us. When we made Princeton our home in 2021 with a toddler and a baby on the way, I was determined to find a property with a building that had the potential to become both my own art studio as well a space to share with the community.
My passions for making things with my hands, transforming spaces, and fostering connections through hospitality are at the heart of this studio project. I genuinely believe that these are the things I am meant to pursue in life, and I am excited to share them with others. As a mother, I want to demonstrate to my daughters what bravery looks like—showing them that it’s perfectly okay to take risks, learn from failures, and persist through the challenges that life presents. ​

With my amazing supportive husband alongside me, we did what we could with limited resources and our own hands to transform our little barn into something special. As our girls have been with me every step of the way, it has been amazing (while also challenging) to get them involved and watch them learn. From painting floors to handling tools and hanging artwork, they have experienced and accomplished a lot in their young lives before entering Kindergarten! It will be fun to continue to involve them in more ways as they grow up and can begin to contribute their own creative ideas into the space.

We are excited to see how this space continues to progress and evolve over time as we work on it bit by bit, getting closer to what we envision. Although the project will always be ongoing, our bottom line is to bring people together to appreciate beauty and enjoy a rejuvenating and meaningful experience with others.

Joya now works as an artist, educator, and event coordinator at Taylor & Rae Studio. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design as well as a Master of Education from Concordia University. As a high school art teacher, she loved teaching a variety of classes involving print-making, silk-screening, drawing, painting, mixed media, and ceramics. As an artist, Joya works as a painter and ceramicist and is passionate about interior design and home styling. She has a wide range of home renovation experiences, from interior styling and design to building, refinishing and remodeling.
